Rocky Slot Game Hits PartyGaming - Noble Casino

Rocky Slot Game Hits PartyGaming - Noble Casino

The new Rocky slot game has become Playtech’s most sought after title as online gaming fans flock to box as Rocky Balboa.

The great features of Playtech’s video slot have made the game one of the most popular of all time. Rocky Slots sets the pace for PartyGaming and Playtech, with Pink Panther soon to follow.

Rocky Slots traces the fortunes of the kind hearted south paw Rocky Balboa from the 1976 film starring Sylvester Stallone. The game has fast and well designed features and game play as well as a pounding soundtrack to match...this really gets the excitement and adrenaline flowing! Bonus features include a special Knockout Bonus round where players can pick Rocky’s opponents, watch a ten round boxing match and win big money.

Playtech have upped the ante with Rocky Slots as the game features more advanced graphics, better sound and more sophisticated detail than other similar games. This makes Rocky Slots an absolute knock out to play.

The spinning reels sound like a punch bag to make players feel that they are hearing Rocky train in his favourite Philadelphia gym. Players need to spell out ROCKY on the 5 reels in order to receive an instant 5x total bet payout. F1 News: Cheating Ferrari Fined $110,000; Team Orders?, by Greg Tingle - 26th July 2010

The latest in a series of scandals has rocked the Grand Prix world, this time Ferrari being named as the "Turkey", a tag formally held by Australia's Mark Webber, but the Webber tag was more tongue in cheek and was a play on words, while the Turkey tag seems more at home with Team Ferrari, albeit with the actually incident occurring in Germany. Media Man and Gambling911 put you in the drivers seat with this special report...

Ferrari were fined a cool $US100,000 ($110,000), relative chicken feed aka turkey feed, this past Sunday for breaching sporting rules and regulations at the German Grand Prix where their victory was tarnished allegations of using the good old fashioned "team orders."

The sports powers that be, let's say the governing body, FIA said the result, which saw Fernando Alonso snatch victory after "team mate" Felipe Massa allowed him to pass, would stick, despite the mud accompany the matter.

However, the team will be summoned to appear before the FIA's world council at a date in the near future.

The Italian's denied ordering Massa, who was leading the charge on the track, to slow down and allow Alonso to overtake on lap 49.

"Team" orders were banned by the FIA eight years ago after the infamous incident at the 2002 Austrian Grand Prix when Ferrari commanded race leader Rubens Barrichello to "pull over" and allow Michael Schumacher to pass and win the race.

On Sunday, Massa was effectively ordered by race engineer Rob Smedley to let Alonso through as the Spaniard was the quicker driver. Just what the power man "engineered" is being heavily discussed.

"OK, Fernando is faster than you," said Smedley.

"Can you confirm you have understood this message?"

Massa went on to react by letting Alonso pass him on the exit of turn six with only 18 laps remaining.

Following the controversial move and trigger point, Smedley was again on the radio apologising to Massa.

"Good lad - just stick with it now, sorry," he said.

Ferrari went on to secure the 1 - 2 victory.

Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali insisted that there were no "team orders" and that it was Massa's decision to let 2-time world champion Alonso past.

"We gave information to the driver and it was his decision to decide how to react," he said. Well, react he did. Well trained money or free thinker?

Domenicali added that Smedley's apology was simply due to the fact that Massa's car was "not as fast" as Alonso's.

"You have to consider that fact that he gave the information to Felipe to help him, and was sorry that his car was not as fast."

Massa clearly upset by the incident, bit his tongue and claimed that it was his decision.

"I didn't have a good pace on the hard tyres and Fernando was quicker," he said.

"It was my decision. You always need to know that we are working for the team and there were no team orders in the race.

"I made the decision because Fernando was faster than me."

Alonso reckons he thought Massa slowed down due to a gear problem.

"There are no team orders," pleaded Alonso.

"I was surprised when I saw Felipe having a problem - I thought it was a gear problem but after hearing Felipe, he was struggling with the hard tyres."

Australia's Mark Webber driving Red Bull scored unlucky 6th place. Some believe 6 is the devil's number!

Australian Casino Wars: Burswood Casino Takes Aim, by Greg Tingle - 20th July 2010

The world famous Australian casino wars have evolved with James Packer's Crown Limited (Crown Casino and Burswood Entertainment Complex) and Star City (Tabcorp) remaining the main players on the giant casino chess board down under. Jupiters on the Gold Coast remains a relative minor players, but some of Cairns in Northern Queensland still wants to make a major strike into the action. Expect incoming missiles from Perth's Burswood. Media Man and Gambling911 play commando and strap on the bullet proof vests and fire up the rocket launchers with this special report from the war zone down under...

Crown Limited's Burswood Entertainment Complex Expansion...

Not completely satisfied with his casino interests and portfolio down under and in the greater Asia Pacific region, Australian casino and lifestyle king, James Packer, is investing in his "war chest", with Perth based Burswood to get a major boost, in the process become a greater chess piece in the world renown Aussie casino wars.

Crown Ltd advises it now has government support to expand the number of pokie machines aka "One Armed Bandits" at Perth's Burswood casino, also known as Burswood Entertainment Complex, where acts such as Hulk Hogan's Hulk-A-Mania are known to run wild entertaining Western Australians.

Crown had achieved "in-principle" support from the West Australian government to expand the number of gaming machines from about 1,750 to 2,000 and increase gaming tables from approx 170 to 220, it advised.

The gaming giant is currently 40% owned by Packer's Consolidated Press Holdings Ltd, but what may happen in the coming year is open to speculation, as Tabcorp also has the eye of Packer and "Billionaire Inc".

Crown powers that be advised Burswood had agreed to compensate the state government a $20 million "front fee" and to increase the tax rate on additional pokies from 22% to 27% over the next 5 years. Even if the Government leadership changes on state or federal level, the deal would stick.

The Racing Minister, Terry Waldron, says that is a typical business deal.

"Twenty million dollars will be utilised to support problem gambling services also to support the racing industry," he said.

$350 million has been earmarked to invest into Burswood to facilitate developments and VIP gaming and accommodation facilities are at the top of the list for upgrades, expansions and the like. No word on Lear jets at this time, which Crown Casino sports, as does competitor Star City in Sydney. Reef Casino in Cairns operated by
Casinos Austria International and Accor is yet to confirm expansion plans or jet numbers to Media Man.

Cairns is still pitching the idea to have a "Aus Vegas" casino mecca, despite a small but vocal group of detractors, and down south in Mildrua the upcoming development of the Mildura Jewel Hotel and Casino is still a strong possibility.

Perth's Burswood has committed to expanding local gaming capacity, establish new restaurants and bars, and further enhance the Intercontinental Perth Hotel, Crown advised the ASX.

A Crown spokesperson said "The end result will be the creation of a world class, integrated resort that can successfully compete against the other integrated resorts in the Asian region."

The Numbers...

Return On Investment - circa 2013.

450 new jobs in 3 years, some of which earmarked for GenerationOne (an Andrew "Twiggy" Forrest and James "Casino King" Packer and friends initiative).

Mr Barry Felstead, Burswood chief exec advised along with $130 million of capital expenditure already made, Burswood would be investing almost half a billion dollars over a 5-year period.

"The investment will bring significant and sustained benefits to Perth and Western Australia," Mr Felstead told the press.

Mildura Jewel Casino: Victoria Update...

Mildura casino developer, the brains behind the grand plan, John Haddad, has met up with Victoria's political powers that be but says there is no clear direction forward for the $400 million plan. Mr Haddad met with Premier John Brumby, Nationals leader Peter Ryan and Liberal leader Ted Baillieu on the proposed riverfront based casino and entertainment complex. He advised Mr Brumby was happy to receive letters of in-principle support from Mildura Council and tourism and development boards, however he still requires "bipartisan" support. "It is legislation for a casino, which is something that is a bit more sensitive," he said. "It would be foolish for the Government to come out with some sort of direction if they know that issue is not going to have at least any indication of support. I have to step back and just hope the National Party and the Liberal Party ... have no objection to a second casino being issued in Victoria."

The Late News...

Major Australian and Asia Pacific based media and new media companies continue to ramp up their online and offline coverage of the Australian gaming, igaming, casino and sports betting sector. Major media and non casino players include Fairfax Media, News Limited, NineMSN, Yahoo! and Google (Search, AdWords and other) and of course Media Man, now sporting Media Man Games and Media Man Poker, adding to Global Gaming Directory and Casino News Media.

A Media Man spokesperson said "Many major Australian and Asia Pacific based media companies, agencies and internet giants are continuing to increase their coverage and sometimes involvement in the casino, igaming, poker and sports betting world. From Google (search engine results), NineMSN (articles and multimedia) to News Limited and Fairfax, both carrying in-house sports betting brands, to us who cover the sector in a holistic fashion with news, pr, campaigns, articles, content, multimedia and portal development, its all happening. Many of these companies like us target the world and have a global strategy, marketing and media plan, but the Australian region remains on the radar and is an important part of the master plan. Of course, the internet is a global medium and not restricted to any one part of the world, so it ideally covers coverage of the casino and gaming sector, be it content, journalism, publicity of other. Different brands are also handing out casino and gaming awards and commendations following in the eGaming Review path, like Media Man 'Online Casino Of The Month' Award which PartyGaming's PartyCasino and Richard Branson's Virgin Casino have both won over the years. It's an extremely exciting time to be covering the casino and gaming sector, something our friends at Gambling911, CAP, GPWA and eGaming Review can vouch for. Expect Crown Limited, Tabcorp, Centrebet, PartyGaming and Virgin to make waves, and Media Man and Gambling911 to remain in the thick of the action."

FIFA World Cup: Good For Aussie Gambling Companies, by Greg Tingle - 12th July 2010

Readers er punters, Spain may be your new FIFA world champions, but that's not the end of the story. The sports business world, namely the sports betting world, legal eagles and TV networks are counting numbers and political and legal repercussions continue to play out in quite a casino economy - roller coaster like fashion. Looks like former Australian prime minister John Howard will not be scoring a FIFA (nor cricket or NRL) role at the time of publication. Who wants Johnny? Media Man and Gambling911 play bean counter as we crunch some numbers so you don't have to...

By all accounts most sports betting companies did very well out of the world cup, and Betfair, Tabcorp, Centrebet, Ezybet and SportingBet were in the Aussie top ten. Not all the firms are ready to release their numbers into the public domain quite yet, however Media Man and Gambling911 have been able to obtain some early numbers...

Tabcorp Holdings (TAH AU): The soccer World Cup increased sales at Australia’s biggest gambling company by 20% to A$120 million, compared with the previous event in Germany four years ago. The stock climbed a modest 0.2% to A$6.47 at time of publication.

FIFA World Cup TV Audience...

A worldwide television audience of more than 700 million people was expected to have watched Spain’s 1-0 extra-time victory over the Netherlands in the final, according to FIFA.

FIFA Legal VS Fairfax Media (The Age)...

FIFA powers that be were not at all happy with newspaper The Age, who published articles last week covering a number of serious allegations towards FIFA regarding corruption. The court case is being conducted in Melbourne, Australia. Don't expect to see Fairfax roll over and leave it alone. Fairfax Media have been instrumental in the downfall of many brands and companies over the years, in recent years known for blowing the whistle on "eco fuel performance booster" Firepower. Insiders say Firepower was "greenwashing on steroids" in an Enron scale disaster!

Australia: Political Betting Odds and Updates, by Greg Tingle - 12th July 2010

Readers er punters, the gaming, casino, political and internet world continue to come together as one in a roundabout way. What kind of betting is starting to take off in a big way down under in Australia? Political betting, and that's with or without Paul The Psychic Octopus throwing in his 2 cents worth. Casino billionaires, politicians, media barons, journalists, insiders and everyone else... watch this space. Media Man and Gambling911 ambush the political ballot boxes (figure of speech) with this special report...

Punters, mark it down and get ready to put money down if you're that way inclined...28th August is widely regarded to be the Australian federal election date.

Centrebet head analyst Neil Evans said August 28 was now well in front of 21st August and the odds for 4th September had also picked up.

"I have been told by a Labor source that August 28 is the target date, with September 4 now being ear-marked as the back-up date," Mr Evans advised.

August 28 has now firmed from $1.85 to $1.70, while September 4 is $4.25 from $6.

Evans said a prominent Australian lawyer had waged $60,000 for Labor to win at $1.22.

The coalition are currently on $4.10 to win the next election.

Greens Head Bob Brown Tip August 21 or 28 Election...

I think either this week or next week she's likely to go to the Governor-General's office asking for an election," talking to Network Nine this past Sunday.

"The Labor strategists who changed the prime minister so readily over the mining tax will now be looking at the best time for the government to go to an election. I raised a glass to that myself, it's an historic breakthrough. However I think a lot of Green votes went across and parked with Julia and Labor voters came and parked with us."

Voters did not like the perceived (or real) mess "Jungle Girl" (Media Man tag) Gillard had made of the asylum seeker policy or her discrimination against same-sex couples in marriage laws, Senator Brown said.

The major parties did not realise the importance of climate change and setting a carbon price to voters, he said.

"The big parties are out of kilter with the majority feeling in this country. They need to change and get a carbon price."

The prime minister could not avoid setting a carbon price and if she did it would disadvantage the opposition, Senator Brown said.

"Tony Abbott will be seen as last century, totally out of touch on this issue," he said.

In the meantime Media Man has issued a public challenge to Tony "The Bruiser" Abbott to set in and show his "clout and punching power" re the banning of an upcoming boxing match in Sydney...

Aussie Boxing Match Banned Background And Update...

Australian boxing champ Danny "The Green Machine" Green is promising legal action after the NSW Combat Sports Authority delivered a last-minute bombshell forbidding Green's July 21 bout with veteran fighter Paul Briggs to be held in NSW.

Green's legal eagles are considering their options while organisers and promoters work around the clock to ensure the IBO cruiserweight title fight will go ahead at Perth's Challenge Stadium.

The NSW Combat Sports Authority has been bashed by both boxers after the board deemed Briggs was unfit to fight despite the 34-year-old twice being cleared by neurosurgeon Ahmed Mohammad and other top medical experts.

With the fight less than two weeks away, the NSW Combat Sports Authority canned the fight after a board meeting on Tuesday without giving either camp any prior notice that the fight, originally scheduled for the iconic Sydney Entertainment Centre, was in jeopardy.

Green is calling for NSW Premier Kristina Keneally to launch an enquiry into the NSW government board's mismanagement of the situation, stating his opponent is "100 per cent fit to fight". Media Man reckons Tony Abbott, leader of the opposition (Liberal) should throw some jabs at the situation, giving "The Bruisers" boxing and all round sporting background and passion.

"I'm outraged," the 37-year-old world champion said. How this little insignificant organisation can think they know more than neurosurgeons and top medical experts shows just how inexperienced they are. Briggs said he was "so angry" at the shock decision and declared himself in some of the best shape of his career. "I've been training the house down, I don't know what they are thinking" Briggs said. The only good news for NSW boxing fans is that Green has not ruled out boxing in Sydney again and tickets to the Sydney fight will be fully refunded.

Brigg’s 3-year absence from the ring was the reason the NSW Combat Sports Authority declared the fight was "unsafe" to go ahead.

Media Man has heard around the traps that this could be the start of a massive crackdown on boxing and other colourful entertainment events like UFC and burlesque. A Media Man insider was heard over saying "No wonder the WWE decided to go to PG13. It's a political strategy to help give them less headaches. The last thing the WWE wants is another scandal. UFC hasn't been able to get regulated in New York yet either, nor has the poker bill being passed in California, so the political machines are at work, its obvious".

Stay tuned for more updates.

Wrap Up...

Gillard or Abbott? Green VS Briggs? Pick em time. Tells us in the forum. Should Abbott being a former boxing champ step in about the match being banned in Sydney? No swearing, even though we know all the old cliche... "How do you know when a politician is lying? When their lips are moving! No offence Julia and Tony... we didn't make the joke up, we're just repeating it for the loyal international audience, probably more familiar with "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" and 'Casino Jack'.

Australians Catch Paul The Octopus Fever, by Greg Tingle - 9th July 2010

The Australian punting public and a number Aussie politicians and journalists have fallen in love with Paul The Octopus, and his curious mania and fever travels coast to coast, Paul's now the toast of the coast (but has managed to stay off the grill and out of boiler to date)... Media Man and Gambling911 spread their tentacles across the Atlantic, voyaging into the Pacific Ocean, reaching out to the golden sands of Bondi Beach, the Gold Coast and beyond.

It's official, Aussie's have been wrap up in Paul The Octopus Mania, with fevers been reported at hospitals across nationwide. The surgeon general advises the fever is only temporary and will relax one once the FIFA World Cup concludes, and a full recovery is forecast once the outcome of the upcoming Australian political election has been decided.

Journalists, politicians and internet entrepreneurs are understood to be in the bracket most susceptible to risk.

Millions of soccer nuts worldwide have taken the bait from the King Of All Octopuses and his management and will be watching when Paul The Octopus decides if he'll embraces his highly trained tentacles around a Spain's flag or that of the Netherlands.

The world's most famous sea creature and man of the moment is enjoying his stay at a German zoo, and hasn't put a foot wrong on soccer selections since the 2008 European final.

He will accurately predict the result of the World Cup final, but only if his workload has not exhausted him, a spokesman said.

The 8th wonder of the world, who shocked Germany by tipping the Spaniard's in the semi-final will today make his prediction for the 3rd place playoff between Germany and Uruguay.

Paul's handlers will follow the familiar and tried and tested routine...2 boxes will be lowered into his think tank, each containing a tasty selection of thinking octopus food and the flags of the two opposing teams.

Whichever box Paul opens is judged to be the winner of course.

Paul will then be offered boxes with Spanish and Dutch flags, the two teams in Sunday's showcase final for his consideration, but only if he is deemed not too tired to think drawing upon his out of this world powers.

"We do not want to overburden him," the spokesman said.

Punters would be at least $2538 AUD better off if they'd wagered $10 down at the conclusion and punted their winnings each time the octopus made his World Cup selection.

The switched on, gambling savvy animal has selected bait from boxes, representing Germany and its opponents, since the start of the South African spectacle.

Fans are convinced the uncanny cephalopod is much more intelligent than your average mollusk, bear, and may be as smart as a dolphin or whale.

Australian animal experts have been considering training up cattle dogs, sheep dogs and Labradors to see if they can achieved similar accuracy in picking winners to our friend Paul. The Australian Police Force, Customs and leading cattle stations have long enjoyed working side by side with animals, with most successes to date coming from K9's, man's best friend.

Aussie and Asia Pacific casino king, James Packer, also tuned into the ocean with one of his pads being located at Bondi Beach, is understood to have taken note of Paul's expertise. Mr Packer's Macau City Of Dreams and the Ho family connection, Melco - Crown and the like, have also taken note. The City Of Dreams has a US$250 million entertainment show 'The House of Dancing Water', and casino special attraction top brass are rumoured to be looking at ways to include Paul in their act, that is if business terms and creative juices flow. It all depends if Paul will put his tentacles on the bottom line, and if he can handle the extra workload.

Back to the soccer field, until the semi-final, Paul picked Germany's box before each match, except in the "group game" phase, when its Serbia's box caught his appetite. Serbia did win sports analysts advise.

When he went for a Spanish snack before yesterday AM s emi-final, it sent an curious sign to Germans.

CSIRO statistics man Geoff Robinson said the underwater gambling expert was a phenom.

"Odds are one chance in two to the power of six of guessing correctly - assuming that the octopus doesn't have psychic powers". And one in every 64 potential octopus substitutes would be expected to do this well. It isn't at all surprising. He is just lucky, and very photographic."

Melbourne Aquarium staffers advise octopuses are more savvy than you might think.

"They are one of the few animals that need interaction to stimulate them through the day," assistant curator Ali Edmunds said, "so we have lots of toys to keep them entertained. But ours can't place bets. They are very trainable and will do just about anything."

Swim back to Germany, disappointment at their 1-0 defeat to Spain turned to anger with some sections of the 350,000 sized crowd in Berlin insulting and even threatening both Paul and his mother.

To Media Man's outrage some fans have begun posting recipes on the internet, believing that Paul's reward for his clairvoyant powers should be a meeting with the boiler or BBQ, side by side with an Aussie shrimp on the barbie. Australian TV, movie (and BBQ tourism) legend Paul Hogan is remaining silent on the subject.

The Spanish Prime Minister has offered state protection for Paul as anger grows, but shrinks think he must be joking.

As earlier published by publishing powerhouse Gambling911...

"I am concerned for the octopus ... I am thinking of sending him a protective team," said Spanish Prime Minister Jose Zapatero on Radio Cadena Ser. His Environment and Fisheries Minister, Elena Espinosa, also suggested a moratorium on going after Paul. "On Monday, I shall be at the European Council of Ministers and I shall be asking for a (fishing) ban on Paul the octopus so the Germans do not eat him!"

German journalists are understood to have had sudden cravings for seafood, with squid being their favored item off the menu. One sports mad German journo said after the semi-final that he had "a sudden desire to eat a bit of squid".

Word of this swam to to Spanish fans and even ahead of the match Spanish Industry Minister Miguel Sebastian called for the creature to be given an "immediate" free transfer to Spain to "ensure his protection".

Political Update Thanks To Paul...

Australian Prime Minister, the smart, humble and most sexy Julia Gillard, will win the next election however Labor will 8 seats, the Aussie punters predict at this time. Rumours circulating around Bondi Beach tip that Paul The Octopus also agrees.

The Federal Government's chances, stocks and image, so it seems, have improved quite a bit since Labor boned (thanks Eddie McGuire) Kevin "Bloody" Rudd last month in favour of his former deputy Ms Gillard (speculation reigns for how long she will remain a Ms... marriage this year?)

Aussie betting - gaming giant Centrebet (Betfair - James Packer 50% owned is the competitor) still expects the Government to lose 8 seats at the upcoming election however still enough to form a 10-seat majority. That's 10 (think of Julia as the Bo Derek of Aussie politics hey baby).

The Late News

Just in punters, Paul is rumoured to be swimming down to Bondi Beach to meet and greet the Bondi Beach Chamber of Commerce within the coming month. The rumour mill says Paul wants a friendly word in the ear of Malcolm "No Bull" Turnbull, former Leader of the Liberal Party. Malcolm "No Bull" Turnbull is a nature lover with at least 4 dogs and is a pro active member of the local surf club. We'll be quizzing Mal on whether he eats Octopus or not, and will be reporting back the findings. Current Liberal leader Tony Abbott will not be attending the upcoming function, but is a keen ocean swimmer, but hasn't spotted Paul in his swimming routes to date.

Bondi Surf Lifesaving Club and Network Ten's Bondi Rescue remain on high alert.

Aussie NRL State Of Origin: Would You Like Caffeine With That?, by Greg Tingle - 7th July 2010

The NRL State Of Origin is about to have its "decider" (final match for this year), but questions are being raised about who is drinking too much coffee and popping caffeine pills? In any event, it doesn't seem to be helping the NSW Blues... Media Man and Gambling911 probe and go in search on caffeine and too much coffee in the NRL fraternity...

Caffeine pills and drinking lots of coffee before performances. Some poker players do it, so do pro wrestlers, as do some of Australia's NRL and AFL footy players. Us hard working journos, PR's and internet entrepreneurs are also known to drink too much coffee, hoping to boost performance, and sometimes falling into a trap of addiction (diagnosed or not) in the process.

We've learned that NSW State of Origin players were "actively discouraged" from taking caffeine supplements before interstate games, the head man of the Blues' medical staff told media yesterday.

NRL (and AFL) remains in the spotlight for many reasons... the aftermath of the salary cap and betting scandals, then AFL star Ben Cousins admittance and subsequent release from hospital, related to taking a pill, and of course the NRL State Of Origin final upon us.

Following Cousins's release from hospital down south Melbourne, David Givney, the Blues doc and Cronulla Sharks medico, told the Fairfax Media that NSW Origin players were warned of the negative side-effects caffeine products in tablet or energy-drink form could have on their on field performance.

"I'd be very surprised if they're being used by many (NRL) players," Givney said. "They're actively discouraged in the NSW team and Cronulla. We have got players that like a coffee but they won't have anything before games."

Givney's comments follow repeated claims yesterday, coinciding with Richmond midfielder's - Cousins release from hospital, that the use of caffeine tablets as a pre-game stimulant was widespread in the AFL.

Givney had a bit to say on the matter "There is nothing to stop a player having a 'V' drink, or something, themselves before a game but we don't encourage it. You lose any advantage you might get in the considerable amount of dehydration from the caffeine."

Players are given a variety of iron and vitamin supplements before matches.

Legal Or Ethical?...

"It's a detectable substance. It might not necessarily be on the banned substances list but in high levels it can be picked up on a drug test and players don't want that."

Roy Saunders for the Maroons (QLD) said "It's not illegal but it's not something that we do in this side The group of players we have don't use caffeine - it's just not something we do."

The subject of caffeine tablets and energy drinks in sport was probed by the Aussie media back some 5 years ago. Wallabies captain George Gregan pointing to AIS research said the tablets improved his performance by up to 7%.

Re AFL stories circulate that some players mixed the caffeine drink Red Bull with the insomnia drug Stilnox for recreational use.

Not to be outdone, allegations of a "prescription drug culture" at the Sydney Roosters coming from the charging of Roosters hooker friendly Jake "The Mate" Friend last month for having tablets in his possession without a prescription.

Mr Friend and teammate Todd Carney, who was with him in beachside suburb Coogee when he was arrested, have been totally cleared of any wrongdoing by the Roosters. Friend's matter has been adjourned for mention to 21st July at Waverley Local Court.

Punters and insiders. Should NRL, AFL and poker pros take caffeine pills (or other legal performance enhancing drugs)? Tell us in the forum.

UFC News: Aussie George Sotiropoulos The Pride Of Oz, by Greg Tingle - 5th July 2010

Australians are some of the biggest UFC fans in the world and have a deep respect for the sport, if recent PPV buy rates and response to UFC's Brock Lesnar and Aussie George Sotiropolous are anything to judge by. Lesnar may be the UFC Hwt Champ, but our boy George is every bit the champ in the eyes of many... Media Man and Gambling911 enter the cage...

The Place: MGM Grand Garden Arena - MGM Grand Casino
What: UFC 116, perhaps the greatest UFC event in history

Brock Lesnar VS Shane Carwin was the headliner that drew in the crown, media, sports betting punters and PPV buy rates, but it was a top card and Aussie George didn't disappoint, earning a victory over American Kurt Pellegrino in 3 rounds. Go Aussie.

Lady luck smiled for both the pride of Australia George Sotiropoulos (Aussie Greek) and Lensar, the undisputed heavyweight champion, the former 'Next Big Thing' from the WWE pro wrestling "circus", who has actually "wrestled" down under in Australia on the 2002 tour, then announced as having injured Hulk Hogan. What a difference a decade can make! Hogan's now in TNA, with casino and real estate deals on the side, and Lesnar is the real deal.

Lensar Pro Wrestling Connection Support...

Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock (Dwayne Johnson), Bill Goldberg, Paul Heyman and good ol JR (Jim Ross) was there, so was the former 'Baddest Man On The Planet' Mike Tyson. The wrestlers would eventually have reason to celebrate with Lensar, after what would have been a test of nerves being ringside for the pro wrestling legends.

'Our George', the Geelong boy came out owned Las Vegas for 23 minutes, further cementing his national and international fame.

Brock Lesnar VS Shane Carwin (Main Event)...

Lesnar had canceled two previous bouts with Carwin after developing an intestinal illness that nearly killed him.

Lesnar recovered from a brutal first-round beating to stop Shane Carwin with a triangle choke in the 2nd, defending his heavyweight title at UFC 116. Lesnar won his first fight in nearly a year despite taking a pounding in the opening minutes from Carwin, the previously undefeated interim champion. Lesnar, the former pro wrestler and the UFC's biggest pay-per-view star, took down Carwin in the second round. He got Carwin in an arm triangle choke, forcing Carwin to tap at the MGM Grand Garden.

Lesnar following victory said "I stand before you a humble champion, and still the toughest SOB around, baby."

Carwin Speaks On Lensar...

"My hat is off to him," said Carwin, whose previous 12 fights never reached the second round. "He's the champion. I fell down the mountain, but I'll get back up."

* BetUS had Carwin priced at +125

George Sotiropoulos snapshot...

"I'm ready for anything. Of course I'd love a title shot but I'm in no rush, I'm happy doing what I'm doing". UFC president Dana White advised he continued to be blown away by Sotiropoulos but only put him in the top 5 of the division. Sotiropoulos nailed Pellegrino with a straight left in the first and dominated the second with power and control. Pellegrino was forced to adopt a defensive approach to avoid getting taken down. Late in the last round, Sotiropoulos was floored by a knee to the head but avoided disaster by surviving to hear the final siren. "I knew exactly what he was going to do in certain positions. He played into every part of my game".

Results

Pay-Per-View Bouts:
Brock Lesnar def. Shane Carwin via submission (arm triangle choke)
Chris Leben def. Yoshihiro Akiyama via submission (triangle choke)
Chris Lytle def. Matt Brown via submission (armbar)
Stephan Bonnar def. Krzysztof Soszynski via second-round TKO
George Sotiropoulos def. Kurt Pellegrino via unanimous decision in 3 rounds

Spike TV Bouts:
Brendan Schaub def. Chris Tuchscherer by first-round TKO
Ricardo Romero def. Seth Petruzelli via submission (armbar)

Preliminary Bouts:
Kendall Grove def. Goran Reljic via split decision
Gerald Harris def. Dave Branch via third-round TKO
Daniel Roberts def. Forrest Petz via split decision
Jon Madsen def. Karlos Vemola via unanimous decision

Wrap Up...

What a show, and outstanding matches and entertainment by both Lesnar, the former amateur wrestler and WWE showman and 'Our George', one step closer to the championship.

By all accounts, everyone was happy... UFC top brass, the fans present, promoters, TV execs. Only the UFC "haters" and fighters who badly beaten up were not smiling much.

Australian Pay TV operator Foxtel is not disclosing its buy rates for the event at this time, but insiders say it was the biggest UFC buy ever in Australia, and one of the biggest PPV buys ever in Australia full stop. UFC remains the biggest business threat to the world of professional boxing, and more experts are starting to question how much effect UFC may have on the WWE, giving that everyone is fighting for the Entertainment Dollar, in what is still well regarded as a global financial crisis. A Media Man spokesperson said "UFC and WWE are different animals, but people only have so much to spend on their entertainment dollar. Brock Lensar knows how to entertain and also has clout and pull with the traditional WWE crowd, so when Lesnar is on the card it stands to reason that it must have some effect on the WWE. Neither the UFC or WWE is going to put either out of business, and its great that the fans win with the choice".

Media Man and Gambling911 publicly thank the UFC, from president Dana White, all the way down for putting on a historic night of entertainment, and also for helping spike the websites again.

Punters, as always, bet with your head, not over it, know the odds and have fun.

Australian Gaming And Sporting Round Up, by Greg Tingle - 3rd July 2010

Readers, gamblers and sports nuts, here's your weekly Aussie gambling and sporting round up as Media Man and Gambling911 circumnavigate the southern hemisphere. UFC weekend, Aussie NRL betting scandal update, Aussie casino wars continue and more...

Crown Casino VS Star City Casino "War" With Politics, Legal...

'Sin City' Sydney: Star City has collected only $212,000 in unclaimed winnings since it opened in 1995, while Melbourne rival Crown Casino collects about that amount every calender year!

This huge difference prompted an accusation that the Star Casino may be "pocketing" much of the unclaimed winnings it collects and a call for the Casino, Liquor and Gaming Control Authority to introduce enhanced auditing of the system used.

In NSW, unclaimed winnings include pokies credits left in machines and jackpots that are downloaded to a machine but not collected! They also include what are known as "sleeper" bets on gaming tables left unclaimed.

Greens Party MP, Lee Rhiannon, quizzed the Minister for Gaming and Racing, Kevin Greene...MP Green advised Parliament in June that the fashion Star City deals with unclaimed winnings is not subject to any regulation.

He did state re unclaimed poker machine jackpot "is dispersed back to the jackpot pool if the patron cannot be identified".

Unclaimed pokies credits are deposited into an unclaimed winnings account, while "sleeper" bets are returned to the float of the gaming table.

Victorian legislation dictates that unclaimed winnings at Crown are paid to the Treasury.

Star City estimates it has collected $212,000 in unclaimed winnings in its 15 years, Crown recently revealed it had collected about $1 million in unclaimed winnings in the past 5 years ($200,000 annually).

Ms Rhiannon remarks "Either Melbourne casino patrons are far more forgetful than those in Sydney, or Star City Casino is secretly pocketing … unclaimed winnings."

Spokesman for Star, Peter Grimshaw, rejected the allegation. He said that while he could not comment on Crown's figure findings, he pointed out that it was a much larger casino with 2500 poker machines, compared with 1500 at Star City. Grimshaw said money found on the floor and credits left on a machine or in a coin tray were deposited into an "unclaimed moneys account" which was then dispersed to registered charities. He did not provide a figure for how much has been given to charity, but advised the account now holds about $22,000 grand.

Ms Rhiannon said the retention of some of the unclaimed money such as "sleeper bets" and poker machine jackpots by Star City was "unjustified". She called on the government to introduce the Victorian system of returning the money to the Treasurer.

"This major discrepancy underlines the need for more stringent auditing and a law change to ensure this money does not go to Tabcorp but goes into consolidated revenue," she said.

Mr Grimshaw said any such change was "a matter for Parliament. Star City has a policy of giving all found money to registered charities, so they would miss out from any move to return the funds to consolidated revenue." A spokesman for Mr Greene referred inquiries about changing the rules to the Treasurer, Eric Roozendaal, who is in China on government business. Mr Grimshaw said the gaming control authority could review Star City's unclaimed winnings "at any time". Charities, you might want to contact the casino and the gaming control authority to give them your thoughts and 2 cents worth.

Aussie NRL Sports Betting Scandal Update...

We know you wanted an update... A multi month probe betting plunges on Melbourne to win the "wooden spoon" (loosing team) before the club was stripped of all its comp points has failed to identify any punters with connections to the game or News Limited, the owners of the Storm and 50% stakeholders in the National Rugby League. The case remains open and chief exec David Gallop and the NRL remain keen to learn who was responsible for a number of bets placed in Melbourne and Brisbane that attracted suspicion and worldwide headlines because of the time and manner they were put on. Racing NSW chief steward Ray Murrihy yesterday handed the NRL his report into the alleged betting fix mania but did not name anyone who had backed the Storm to finish last that may have had inside knowledge of the penalties imposed on the club for rorting the salary cap. Allegations that the punishment given to the Storm had been pre-determined before Melbourne chairman Rob Moodie and board member Craig Watts flew to Sydney on 22nd April for meetings with News Limited and the NRL over allegations of salary cap rorts form part of the legal case by the club's four independent directors against the penalties. A series of wagers that stood to win huge amounts if the then competition leaders ran last were laid with Australian betting agencies either late on the night of Wednesday, April 21st or early the next day...before the NRL announced that Melbourne had been stripped of the 2007 and 2009 premierships and forced to play this season for no competition points for "cheating" the salary cap. Among them is a mystery punter who walked into a Melbourne hotel at 9.30pm the night before the penalties were handed down and placed five successive cash bets totalling $200 on the Storm to claim the wooden spoon. At odds of a massive 200-1, the punter holds winning tickets worth $40,000. More than 400 bets are believed to have been laid with Tabcorp, TAB Sportsbet and 14 corporate bookmakers around Australia in the 48 hours leading up to the Storm being stripped of all competition points. Next thing odds fell to 20-1 before suspicions of a sting prompted betting agencies to suspend the wooden spoon market.

Report Findings...

No evidence that any player or official as defined by the NRL rules placed a bet or had an interest in a bet on Melbourne Storm to win the 'wooden spoon' and/or 'miss the eight'; and.

The level of activity on the 'wooden spoon' bet type was consistent with information concerning the gravity of the breach becoming known prior to the Storm informing the NRL of the extent of its breaches at an 11am meeting on April 22.

"The most significant of the bets in terms of timing appear to have been from Melbourne and Brisbane based punters," Murrihy said.

Wires, SMH and News Limited reports have put out there...a punter, alleged to be a league official, stood to win $20,000 from bets placed with online bookmakers from a computer in Brisbane but had ripped up his tickets to avoid detection. However, the bookmaker alleged to have taken the wager said it would be impossible for any punters who had bet online to avoid detection by tearing up their ticket as the Northern Territory Gaming Commission had a record of all transactions. But it seems the identity of the punter who placed the bets totalling $200 in a Melbourne pub will not be known until he or she attempts to collect their $40,000 at the end of the season. Footage taken from CCTV cameras at the hotel did not show the bets being put on.

According to Tabcorp sources, the punter who made the cash bets totalling $200 had a "good knowledge" of the company's procedures. TAB outlets pay out a maximum of $10,000 without requesting photo identification. By placing 5 bets, none of which would return more than the $10,000 limit, the punter may have been trying to avoid handing over his or her identification.

The NRL said Murrihy had spoken to a number of persons who had placed significant bets as well as the integrity departments of betting operators. "The NRL stresses that while people may have gained information from outside of the NRL that led them to speculate on the seriousness of the meeting, the decision to stop Melbourne accruing points in 2010 was not made until the afternoon of April 22, nor were decisions in relation to the club being stripped of both premierships and minor premierships," a media statement issued in the past 48 hours stated.

Internet Addiction Not Linked To Gambling Addiction...

Internet dependence and "problem gambling" are both addictions, but Aussie researchers found no link between excessive Internet use and "problem gambling". Dr. Nicki Dowling of the University of Melbourne and his colleagues did an assessment of a group of uni students down under and determined similar vulnerabilities... attributable to anxiety, stress, depression, loneliness and social isolation...appear to contribute to excesses in Internet use as well as gambling behavior. The researchers conclude excessive Internet use and problem gambling appear to be separate disorders that share common "underlying psychological profiles"! The study was published in the journal Rapid Communication in Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking. Oh, punters and gamers also enjoy Facebook, and of course Gambling911 and Media Man are on Facebook also.

Former Australian Prime Minster John Howard (Not Rudd) Not Welcome On Aussie Cricket Board...

The powers that be have spoken loud and clear.... Former Aussie PM John Howard on the Cricket board? No Thanks.... We don't see Kevin Rudd throwing his hat in the ring either. Here's an update...

The Howard controversy which has engulfed world cricket gained diplomatic status on Friday with the prime ministers of Australia and New Zealand supporting the former Aussie PM, whose bid to become ICC vice-president was rejected by the ICC executive board last Thursday. Howard was asked by present Australian PM Julia Gillard to give it another shot, raising the prospect of a protracted battle on racial lines. Meanwhile, new ICC president Sharad Pawar vehemently denied any racial connotation in Howard's rejection. He also shuddered off suggestions that the development would divide world cricket. The Indian cricket board (BCCI) stood behind him, saying, "It's not a diplomatic row as the media would like us to believe," a top BCCI official told TOI. With the Aussie and New Zealand cricket boards expressing shock and resentment over their candidate's failure, Gillard and Kiwi PM John Key echoed..."John Howard, passionate, passionate cricket fan. I share some of the concerns he's voiced publicly about the kind of factors that are influencing this decision," Gillard said on Friday, with Key..."I'd be very happy to offer full support for John Howard to get this role." Meanwhile, former ICC CEO Malcolm Speed's attack on the sub-continental cricket admin following Howard's inability to secure enough votes to become VP trotted around the cricketing world. Australian Speed, who often feuded with BCCI during his term as ICC CEO, even called Pakistan Cricket Board's chief Ijaz Butt a "buffoon" while also saying that two former presidents of the Bangladesh Cricket Board were jailed after a change of government. Butt didn't react but a PCB spokesperson said: "We will not comment on it as we are in the process of confirming the statement carried in the Australian media."

Australian Politics: Julie Gillard Gets Labor Back In Front!...

PM Julia Gillard has reversed federal Labor's fall in the polls and put her party in an election-winning position, according to recent analysis. Reuters Poll Trend combining recent opinion poll results gives the Gillard govt a two-party preferred vote of 51.6%, compared to the Coalition's 48.4% If repeated on election day, the result would see Labor returned to government, but with a reduced majority. It lends weight to Labor's decision last week to dump then prime minister Kevin Rudd for Julia Gillard. The Rudd government's vote had been falling steadily since March. The combined polling also confirms the new Prime Minister's popularity. It suggests 52.2% of voters prefer Julia Gillard as prime minister compared to 33% for Opposition Leader Tony "The Bruiser" Abbott. There is heightened interest in the polls as Prime Minister Gillard decides when to call a federal election due between August and April, but likely to be held before the end of October. UFC: Dana White Loves Aussie Fans...

"You know over there in Australia, you have real men's men. They're not pussies. Do you even have pussies over there? Guys that go, mmmm, aahhh, I can't go into the outback. They are real men, tough men, who get the sport and like it." Australian fans are expected to bet big on the UFC 115 Lesnar VS Carwin fight, with Lesnar enjoying a slight favorite, is world on the streets and MMA websites and sheets. Aussie Pay TV operator, Foxtel, and its Main Event PPV channel are understood to be getting big numbers, and these are likely to be released within the week following the 115 fight event.

Aussie F1 Ace Mark Webber Fine After Crash...

Mark Webber has played down his 190mph European Grand Prix crash and is fine. Webber is looking forward to continuing on flying the flag for Red Bull Racing. He comments... "Obviously you get a bit concerned when that happens. But fortunately I walked away from it and when you race for as long as us guys do you're going to have the odd big one here and there. I remembered everything". "It certainly takes both of us to have the accident," Webber said. I could have done something different to not hit Heikki as well. Collectively we got involved with each other and certainly it was unnecessary over what was at stake, which was not a great deal. That's the stupid thing about it."

NRL State Of Origin - New South Wales v Queensland - This Wednesday...

NSW selectors have opted for a "something old, something new" approach to Game Three, sacking players, blooding players and recalling players as they battle to stave off an embarrassing 3-0 series nuclear destruction.

Coach info: Craig Bellamy will want to go out with a bang in his final as mentor of NSW. He enters this clash with a terrible 2-6 record for just a 25% return – way down on his 67% winning rate with the Storm. QLD's Mal Meninga now boasts a 71% winning record from his 14 games guiding Queensland.

Queensland remain extremely heavily tipped to win the final clash of the season.

NSW win 2.60
QLD win 1.50
